British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a coordinated attack against an hidden munitions depot in Syria operated by the IS group, according to the UK's MoD.
The location, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the release indicated, and was located in mountainous terrain just north of the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a several approach shafts leading to the depot... preliminary assessments are that the target was engaged successfully," the ministry announced.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the attack conducted Saturday night and each participating jet made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon fighters were assisted by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
IS - alternatively referred to as ISIS - established extremist governance over significant areas in Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This operation shows our UK leadership, and commitment to operate in unison with our allies, to eliminate any resurgence of the terrorist group and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the region," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary remarked.
RAF aircraft have conducted surveillance missions over Syria to "forestall any efforts to regroup" of IS after its defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I must thank all the members of British forces who took part in this operation for their expertise and their courage," he commented. "They were part of thousands of UK service members deployed over the festive period. This mission, to take out militants who pose a risk to our safety, shows how UK forces are prepared to act, throughout the year, keeping Britain secure within its borders and strong abroad."
In December, the American forces conducted what it termed a "major assault" on IS targets in the country, following an assault resulted in the deaths of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The United Nations says IS still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in Syria and Iraq.
